The Kawasaki T-4 is a Japanese twin-engine trainer developed at home for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, where it replaced older training types. The layout with two small turbofan engines, a high-mounted wing and a tandem cockpit for instructor and student is simple and dependable, and the aircraft is used both for advanced training and for liaison duties. Since the mid-1990s the T-4 has equipped the national aerobatic team Blue Impulse, which took it over from the previous type.
A model with such a bold gloss finish is demanding above all in surface preparation, because every flaw in a seam will show through the gloss. Fill the fuselage and leading-edge seams and sand them smooth through several grits until the surface is perfectly even. The white needs a good light primer, otherwise differences in the shade of the plastic will show through. Apply the blue only after masking off the white areas and spray it in thin coats; a saturated blue tends to cover unevenly. Lay down a gloss coat before the decals, settle them with a decal softener once it has dried and then seal the whole model with a final coat so that the carrier film edges disappear. Heavy weathering does not belong on a display machine — aircraft in service are kept clean, so it is enough to hint at faint traces around the engine exhausts and on the landing gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
