It is an injection-molded plastic model supplied unassembled and unpainted. The manufacturer has the family of early U-2s in this scale covered in several versions, and this item corresponds to the D version with the sensor.
The Lockheed U-2 is a single-engine high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft with an extremely slender wing of great span, which gives it qualities close to a glider. That is also why it has an unusual landing gear with the main leg on the centerline of the fuselage and jettisoned outriggers under the wing. The U-2D variant came about through conversion to a two-seat arrangement with a second station for the operator of the measuring equipment, and it was used among other things for research tasks in which infrared radiation was recorded from great altitudes. The two-seat machines differ from the single-seaters in the shape of the fairing behind the cockpit, which is a clearly visible difference on a model.
The long thin wing is the most sensitive part of the build. Check the seating of the spars before gluing and support the model while it dries so that the dihedral does not twist. It is worth finishing the cockpit and the area of the second station carefully, because they are clearly visible under the clear parts. All-black or dark gray schemes are treacherous, because they hide detail: spray a base, then the individual panels in slightly different shades and unify the area with a thin coat of the final color. Accentuate the engraved lines with only a weak paneliner; a strong wash would look unnatural on a dark surface. A matte varnish at the end gives the surface the right character.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
