A set of precisely cut masking templates of kabuki paper (washi) for spraying the glazing and the wheels of a Lockheed Vega 5C model in 1:48 scale. The EXPERT level is the most complete: besides the cockpit glazing and the wheels it also contains masks for the frame seals and the inner side of the glazing, so the interior and exterior colors of the frames can be set apart. It is not a kit but an aid for perfect painting.

The real subject

The Lockheed Vega was an American single-engine high-wing monoplane of the late 1920s with an aerodynamic wooden monocoque fuselage. The 5C model made its name on long-distance and record flights by the celebrated pilots of the interwar era and is one of the classics of the golden age of aviation.

Usage tips

• Apply the inner masks first and spray the interior shade of the frames, then deal with the outside.
• Press the mask into every edge with a soft tool so that paint cannot creep under.
• Kabuki paper follows curved windows and leaves no adhesive behind when removed.
• Remove the masks while the paint has only flashed off, for a crisp edge.
