New Ware 1:48 Do 217 J-1/J-2 BASIC - masking templates

A set of self-adhesive masks in fine kabuki (washi) tape, die-cut exactly to the shape of the glazing. The BASIC level covers the cockpit and the transparent parts, so you can spray the glazing frames sharply and with no paint running under the tape. The masks are made by the Czech brand New Ware.

The real subject

The Dornier Do 217 J was the heavy fighter and night fighter version of the twin-engine Do 217 bomber. It had a solid nose with gun armament and was deployed with the Luftwaffe as well as with the Regia Aeronautica. The glazed cockpit with a number of small frames is among the most demanding places to mask on this subject.

Use and tips

• Lift the parts off the sheet carefully with pointed tweezers and transfer them to a clean, degreased surface.
• Press the mask down carefully along the perimeter of the frame, so that the edge beds down perfectly.
• We recommend spraying in thin layers; a dense layer of paint increases the risk of bleeding.
• Remove the mask shortly after drying, while the paint is still slightly flexible.
