The New Ware 1:48 He 111 H-3 EXPERT mask set handles spraying the extensive glazing of this twin-engine aircraft. The EXPERT form is the widest grade of extent the manufacturer offers for the subject.

The He 111 is one of those subjects where the glazing alone gives a modeler more work than all the rest of the build. The glazed nose is broken up, the frames are narrow and they run in several directions at once. This set from the manufacturer New Ware holds self-adhesive masks cut exactly to the shape of the individual surfaces, so measuring and cutting tape by hand falls away. The EXPERT form is the most extensive grade of the set.
On a broken-up nose the difference between a frame painted over by hand and a sprayed one shows at once. A line drawn by hand usually widens or overruns where the frames converge, and a clear part can then no longer be put right properly. A mask, by contrast, holds a constant width along its whole length and the edge of the paint ends exactly where it should. The resulting glazing looks like glass in a frame rather than clear plastic with lines drawn on it.
On a heavily divided nose, plan the order in advance and apply the masks from the largest surfaces to the smallest. Move the narrow strips on the tip of a scalpel rather than with your fingers, so that they do not twist. Once applied, go over the whole surface with a soft wooden stick and check against the light whether an edge is standing up anywhere. Before the color itself, it is good to overspray the edge of the mask with a light coat of the base shade, which closes off any creep. Lay the paint on in several thin coats and lift the masks off while the coat is fresh.
The package holds only the mask set. A kit, paints and glue are not part of it.
