A masking set from the QMT brand in 1:48 scale for the late version of the F series and the early versions of the G series of the Bf 109. It is not a model but an aid to painting: die-cut self-adhesive shapes that close off the area of the wheel bays during spraying.
The wheel bays are dealt with early, but masking them touches the later steps as well. The proven order is: paint the interior of the bay, let it cure, mask, spray the primer and the camouflage, lift the mask off, and only then go into the gloss coat under the decals. Anyone who leaves the mask on through the clear coat risks the edge flaking away with the coat when it is lifted, because the coat is harder and more brittle than paint. For the final matting the bay is usually not masked again, as a matte coat does it no harm.
Check whether the mask reaches into the places where the gear doors or the struts are glued later — on dried paint the glue holds worse than on clean plastic, and it is good to know that in advance. If you find such a place, screen that small piece of plastic off with tape and keep it bare. At the end of the whole build, go over the transitions with a magnifier.
The package contains masks only. The model, the paints and the glue are not part of it.
