A photo-etched set of accessories for a model of the Soviet MiG-3 fighter in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The MiG-3 was a Soviet fighter from the start of the German attack on the Soviet Union. It came about as a machine for combat at high altitude, and that is where it also gave its best performance. Most of the dogfights on the Eastern Front, however, took place low over the ground, where its strengths did not tell and where its fairly high demands on piloting made things harder for its pilots. Even so it served through the first and hardest period of the war and became one of the typical aircraft of 1941.
Photo-etched metal parts in 1:48 scale meant to complete a model of this aircraft. Metal sheet allows thicknesses that a plastic part cannot reach, so thin rims, grilles and small equipment match the scale considerably better. The instructions of the manufacturer of the set give the make-up of the parts and their placement on the model.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and hold them with tweezers. Make the bends against a straight edge or in a bending tool, with pressure along the whole length of the part at once. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin; cement for polystyrene will not join metal. Before painting, degrease the surface and apply a base coat so that the paint holds even through further handling.
For modelers of Soviet aviation equipment of the Second World War who want on their model even what a plastic kit cannot manage. A kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
