This is an accessory set in resin (the Brassin range) from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:48 scale. It is neither an aircraft nor a helicopter kit but separate ordnance that you add to a model of an anti-submarine machine you have already built, or use as equipment for an airfield scene or a deck. The resin casting carries finer surface detail and sharper edges than can be achieved with injection-molded plastic, which is why an accessory of this kind is used where the ordnance is meant to be seen close up.
The Mk.44 is an American lightweight anti-submarine torpedo with acoustic homing, brought into service at the end of the fifties. It was intended to be dropped from patrol aircraft and helicopters and to be launched from surface carriers, and it became one of the most widespread anti-submarine weapons of its day, not only in the US Navy but with allied naval forces as well. It was gradually replaced in service by the more capable Mk.46 torpedo, but the Mk.44 stayed in use for a number of further years.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release residue comes off. Without that the paint holds poorly and peels. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a sharp cutter, never with side cutters, which break and shatter resin. Sanding is best done wet and with your airways protected. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary cement for plastic does not soften resin and the joint would not hold. Lay down a primer before painting and only then the target shade. The details and the legends come out after light accentuation of the edges and after a dark wash has run into the grooves.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the basic kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
