An injection-molded plastic model of the Japanese Nakajima A6M2-N Type 2 floatplane fighter (the Allied code name Rufe) in 1:48 scale from Tamiya. The kit captures the float version of the famous A6M fighter with its large central float and two outrigger floats under the wings. It offers cleanly engraved surface detail and a cockpit; as with other Tamiya models it stands out for the accurate fit of the parts.
The A6M2-N was created by converting the A6M2 Zero carrier fighter into a floatplane; Nakajima handled the development and production. It was intended to defend forward island bases and anchorages where airfields had not yet been built. Adding the floats cut the speed and the agility compared with the land-based version, yet the machine found a role in the defense of remote areas of the Pacific.
Assemble and paint the cockpit before you close up the fuselage. Glue the plastic parts with thin modeling cement for plastic; take care to seat the float struts squarely and firmly, because the model stands on them. Apply a primer before painting and spray the paints with an airbrush in thin coats. On a floatplane it works well to emphasize the panel outlines with fine washes and to hint at traces of use and moisture on the floats. The model looks effective on a stand that imitates the water surface.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
