A decal sheet in 1:48 scale for the Japanese Nakajima B5N2 carrier torpedo aircraft, known by the Allied designation Kate.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Nakajima B5N was a carrier attack aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Navy, introduced under the designation type 97. For its day it was a modern machine: an all-metal low-wing monoplane with retractable landing gear and folding wings, with a radial engine and a crew of three. The B5N2 version received a more powerful engine and made up the backbone of the carrier attack units at the start of the war in the Pacific. It was these machines that took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, where they worked in two roles at once, with a torpedo and with bombs dropped from level flight. The Allies assigned the aircraft the code name Kate, which caught on so firmly that it is still in use today.
Decals in 1:48 scale for a model of the B5N2. How many marking variants the sheet carries and which machines they belong to is described in the instructions supplied with the sheet.
The sheet is a classic wet decal. Cut the subject out as closely as you can, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and wait until the film releases from the backing paper on its own. Apply it onto smooth gloss varnish, otherwise the edge of the film will give itself away. Nudge the large elements on the wing and the tail surfaces into place while there is still enough water under them, and push the bubbles out from the center outward. A decal softener settles the film into engraved panel lines, and once it has dried a covering coat of varnish follows.
For modelers of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service in 1:48 scale. The package holds a decal sheet; the aircraft model, the paints and the varnish do not belong to it, unless stated otherwise.
