1:48 Nakajima Ki-27 Nate is a Dead Design masking set for the canopy glazing in 1:48 scale. An accessory for a model, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set belongs among accessories for painting: pre-cut self-adhesive masks that cover the canopy glazing before the frames are sprayed over them. The model of the aircraft is not included. Once the paint has dried the mask is lifted and the clear areas stay free of overruns, which on a finished model would be hard to put right.
The Nakajima Ki-27, given the code name Nate by the Allies, was a single-engine fighter of the Japanese Army Air Force of the late 1930s. It had fixed, faired landing gear, a radial engine and a long, heavily glazed canopy. It is precisely that canopy that makes the model a masking puzzle: there are many frames, they are narrow and they run the whole length of the rear part of the cockpit.
Masking a canopy like that by hand means cutting and applying a couple of dozen strips of tape, trimming each one separately on a curve and hoping the widths match. A pre-cut set does away with that work and, above all, guarantees that all the frames are the same width, which the eye spots on a model at once. Work from the largest areas to the smallest, so that small pieces do not end up stuck under the big ones. Before spraying, let the model sit for a while and run over the edges again, because the film returns slightly toward its original shape after being applied.
This is an accessory for a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
