A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the fighter Curtiss P-40K in 1:48 scale. There are no plastic parts in the package - the set serves purely for masking the transparent parts of a kit you have already bought and is cut to its particular shape of glazing.
The P-40K was derived from the airframe of the P-40E rendering and was powered by the Allison V-1710-73 twelve-cylinder V engine with a higher takeoff output. The higher torque called for a modification of the directional stability, and on the later series a greater area of the vertical tail surface, or a lengthened rear part of the fuselage, was therefore added. The aircraft served on a whole range of battlefields, where its robust structure and its ability to operate from unpaved surfaces proved themselves. The cabin had a framed windshield with armored glass and a sliding canopy.
One single thing decides the result: how well the mask sits all the way around. Once it is stuck on, run the blunt side of a toothpick or a wooden stick along every edge and press it down from the center toward the edge of the frame. Then look at the model against a sharp light - an unseated corner will give itself away as a light strip. Thin the paint more than you are used to and apply it in three or four very thin layers. A heavy layer builds up under the edge of the mask, the edge is left ragged once it is removed, and correcting it then means sanding the whole area down. Let freshly sprayed paint dry, but do not take the mask off weeks later from under several coats of varnish.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, which it does not contain. Paints and glue are not included in the package.
