It covers the markings of the machine whose period painting on the side of the fuselage carried the name Passion Wagon; in the name of the product the pilot Captain Charles Weaver is given with the aircraft. We recommend verifying the assignment of the pilot to the particular machine against the documentation for the sheet before building. The P-51 Mustang was an American single-engine fighter of all-metal construction with a laminar-flow wing section. In the versions with the Packard Merlin engine it gained the performance at high altitude that made it a long-range escort machine. The most widespread version, the P-51D, can be told by the bubble canopy and the lowered fuselage spine. Individual paintings and inscriptions on the sides of the fuselage were a common practice of the time with these aircraft, a way of telling the machines apart.
With the Mustang the order of the steps matters more than with other models, because many machines flew in bare metal and the surface is then treated differently. The proven order is: base coat and metal shades, stand for a day, a thin clear gloss coat, decals, decal softener, another thin gloss coat. Only after that comes the weathering: panel lines, soot traces from the exhausts and light scuffs. If the weathering were done before the decals, the decal film would run across it and the effect would disappear under smooth glass. Finally, even out the sheen of the whole model with one final clear coat.
