A set of photo-etched metal parts for a P-51D model in 1:48 scale. Thin metal holds crisp engraving where injection-molded plastic would stay coarse.

A set of photo-etched metal parts intended for a P-51D model in 1:48 scale. Photo-etching works by etching a shape into thin sheet metal, so the parts come out noticeably more delicate than injection-molded plastic ones and carry fine engraving that plastic could not hold in this scale. Which parts the set contains and where they belong on the model are listed in the manufacturer's instructions.
The P-51D is the most numerously built version of the American Mustang fighter from the end of the Second World War. At first glance it is told from the older versions by the bubble canopy over a cut-down rear fuselage, which opened up the pilot's view behind. The wing has an airfoil designed for laminar flow, and the machine became famous as a long-range escort fighter.
The parts are held in the fret by thin tabs. Cut through them with a sharp blade on a hard surface, that is, on glass or on metal, and level the remains of the tab with a fine file. Bend them over the edge of a metal ruler or in a bending tool, so that the edge comes out straight across its whole length. Metal does not hold polystyrene cement; use super glue, best in gel form, which gives you time to settle the part. Degrease the metal before painting and lay down a primer, otherwise the paint rubs off during handling.
The package contains photo-etched parts only. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
