A photo-etched set aimed at the cockpit of the Tornado model to the ASSTA 3.1 standard in 1:48. The manufacturer is the Czech company Eduard. Interior sets usually devote themselves to instrument panels, side consoles and the small elements around the seats, that is the places where a plastic molding gives only a soft relief.
The Tornado is a two-seat combat aircraft with the crew in tandem, the pilot in front and the systems operator behind. The cockpit is therefore interesting twice over, and the two stations differ in their equipment. The ASSTA 3.1 standard denotes an upgrade of the avionics and weapons integration on some of the IDS aircraft, which is reflected in the look of the instrumentation too. The precise appearance of the panels in this standard is not stated here, however.
A dark wash does most of the work in a cockpit. The procedure is always the same: primer, base cockpit shade, a gloss intermediate coat, and only then the wash. Without the gloss layer the wash bleeds into the matte paint and dirties the surface. Apply the wash with a brush into all the recesses, let it set for a few minutes and wipe the excess off with a cotton bud lightly dampened with thinner, always in one direction across the detail. The dials will then stand out by themselves. A matte varnish comes at the end, plus a drop of gloss varnish on the instrument glazing to imitate glass. Painted parts from the set are not oversprayed, only evened out with varnish.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints have to be bought separately, unless stated otherwise.
