The masking set for the road wheels of the Pz.Kpfw. II light tank, versions A to D, in 1:48 scale helps with the tire bands of small wheels, where a brush is hard to guide. The set is cut for the Tamiya kits.

This is an accessory for painting, not a kit. The masks cover the areas of the road wheels that are to stay in a different shade after spraying. The shape follows particular parts, so the set is listed for the Tamiya kits.
On a light tank the road wheels are small and there are many of them, which is exactly the situation in which painting tire bands by hand fails most often: the area of the tire band is narrow, the diameter small and a wavering brush has nowhere to hide a mistake. The early versions of this type carry small wheels sprung on leaf springs with several return rollers above them, and a longitudinal girder runs along the length of the running gear, partly shading the wheels. Care is needed with the D version, because its running gear is laid out entirely differently, with a smaller number of markedly larger wheels. The designation of the set covers several versions, so before masking check which of them your kit represents and what wheels are on the sprues, so you lay the masks on the right parts.
Small parts are easily lost and the preparation on them is just as easily forgotten. Leave the wheels on their sprue gates as long as possible, wash them along with the sprue in lukewarm water with dish soap and let them dry thoroughly. A degreased surface is decisive with small parts, because a mask has only a small area by which to hold. A thin primer follows, on which neither paint nor mask will slip. Then assemble the chassis in an order that leaves you access to the wheels until the last moment: paint and unmask the wheels first, and only then fit them and deal with the tracks.
The package contains masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
