The Royal Aircraft Factory built an aircraft that did not dazzle with agility but was fast, strong and utterly dependable in a dive. That was exactly what the pilots wanted who had moved on from circling in a turn to attacking from above and breaking away fast. It was on this type that the scores of the most successful British airmen of the closing stages of the war were built, and front-line squadrons flew it until the armistice.
The British national insignia consists of three concentric circles. Spraying it means laying three colors exactly inside one another, and that is a test on which cutting a circle out of tape by hand usually fails. In 1:48 the outer circle is only about 15 millimeters across, so a deviation of half a millimeter shows at first glance. Pre-cut masks solve that geometry for you and the result has the matte surface of the fabric, not the glossy patch of a decal.
Before applying it, rid the surface of grease and dust, or the edge will not cling. Lay the colors on from the lightest shade to the darkest and let each coat dry completely before the next. Spray at right angles, not at a slant, or the paint will creep under the edge and the circle will get a smeared rim.
