A plastic kit of the two-seat Su-9U trainer, 1:48 scale. The parts are neither assembled nor painted.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Soviet Su-9 interceptor entered air defense service at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s as an answer to high-flying, fast reconnaissance machines. It had a delta wing, conventional horizontal tail surfaces and a cone with a radar in the throat of the nose intake. Its armament consisted of four beam-riding guided missiles, and a gun was absent from the aircraft altogether.
The transition to such a demanding machine was hard on a pilot, and that is why the training conversion designated Su-9U came about. The seats lie one behind the other, the instructor sits at the back, and the second station called for work on the spine of the fuselage and for a smaller fuel load. Only a few dozen were built, so the two-seat version remains a rarity in the modeling range.
Inside you will find unassembled plastic parts on sprues, a decal sheet and building instructions. Glue and paints are not part of the delivery and have to be obtained separately. The build suits a modeler who already has a few finished aircraft behind him.
On types with a long fuselage the nose cone usually has to be weighted, otherwise the finished model will sit down on its tail. Check the wing-to-fuselage joints dry before gluing and glaze the cockpits only once the surrounding areas have been sprayed, so that the clear parts are not fogged by the fumes of the glue.
Leave the clear parts until the end in the bag they came in. Scratches on a canopy are hard to polish out and are immediately apparent on a finished aircraft.
