HGW 1:48 Spitfire Mk.VIII – stencil markings

This set of decals in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer HGW holds the stencil markings, that is the small service lettering and symbols that covered the surface of the Spitfire Mk.VIII fighter aircraft. HGW uses so-called wet transfers: once dry, the carrier film is removed and only the lettering itself stays on the surface with no visible decal edge, which looks very realistic.

Service markings add a multitude of small inscriptions, warnings and data spread over the airframe to the main markings of an aircraft. They raise the credibility of a model, because the real machines were densely covered with such texts. The set is intended for a model of the Spitfire Mk.VIII in 1:48 scale.

Use

• Apply onto a smooth, preferably gloss-varnished surface
• Release the decal in water and move it into place, then press the water out from under the film
• Once dry, take off the carrier film; only the lettering itself stays on the surface
• A decal softener and a decal fixer work well here
