The nose radome for the Su-27 in 1:48 scale from Metallic Details is a resin accessory that replaces the nose cone of the plastic model with a more accurate and finer part. Intended kit: Academy.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory set, not an aircraft model. It replaces the nose antenna cover, that is the radome, on the plastic model of the heavy Su-27 fighter in 1:48 scale. The cast resin part has a more accurate nose profile and a cleaner surface than the production plastic part, which comes in halves and calls for filling and sanding the lengthwise seam. The castings are shaped for the Academy kit.
The Su-27 is a twin-engine fighter with a markedly elongated nose housing the antenna of the onboard radar. The tip ahead of the cockpit is therefore a very sensitive area of shape: even a slight departure from the profile shows up at once on the aircraft's distinctive outline. On the real machine there is also a sensor probe boom ahead of the radome that lengthens the shape.
Wash the part in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the mating face on sanding paper laid on a flat board so that the nose sits on the axis of the fuselage once it is glued. Always test the fit dry, then fill and sand any step. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and on a larger area a gel version with a longer working time helps. Paint over a primer; radomes on aircraft often differ in shade from the rest of the fuselage, so it is worth spraying them separately and masking the transition.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
