A resin conversion set from the Czech maker Hauler in 1:48 scale. It replaces the upper part of the hull of a model so as to create the enclosed fighting compartment of the Soviet Su-76i self-propelled gun. The set is cut for a specific Tamiya kit - you have to own the base model, which is not included in the package. Given the extent of the work on the plastic, it is an accessory for more experienced builders.
The Su-76i came about during the Second World War by using captured German chassis, on which Soviet production built a new armored superstructure with a 76.2 mm gun. The vehicle therefore combines German running gear with a typically Soviet angular fighting compartment and is easy to recognize among the self-propelled guns of the period. It is precisely this combination that makes the conversion an interesting subject - you can see at first glance where the lower part comes from and where the upper part comes from.
First wash the resin parts in warm water with detergent so that the release agent from the mold is removed, or the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, never break them, and protect your airways while sanding - resin dust must not be breathed in. First mark out the plastic hull against the resin part and cut with a margin; it can always be fine-tuned. It is bonded exclusively with super glue; cement for plastic has no effect on resin. Fill the seams with putty or with a thicker cyanoacrylate, and finish and paint the running gear and the interior before you close the hull up.
This is a conversion accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
