A kit of injection-molded plastic in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, representing the British single-seat fighter aircraft Supermarine Spitfire in the Mk.IIb version. The model is intended to be assembled and painted and is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Eduard is known for fine engraving of the surface and a richly detailed cabin interior, but please check the particular contents of this package, that is, the number of parts, the presence of photo-etched parts and masks and the number of decal schemes, against the manufacturer's catalog for the particular edition. The letter b in the designation of the version refers to the type of wing, which on Spitfires set the make-up of the armament apart.
The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter aircraft of all-metal construction with a characteristic elliptical wing, driven by a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12. The Mk.II version followed on from the first production Spitfires and was made in a newly built factory, which made it possible to raise the pace of production. The wing of the b type carried combined armament of cannons and machine guns, unlike the wing of the a type with machine guns only. The Spitfire stayed in production throughout the Second World War and went through a series of development versions.
Separate the parts from the sprues with photo-etch cutters or a scalpel and sand the remnants of the gates. Glue with a thin modeling cement for plastic, which is drawn into the joint by capillary action. Before painting, go over the whole model with a base color, on which any imperfections of the joints will show. Finish the cabin and close it before you start work on the outer surface. The camouflage transitions on British aircraft are usually sharp, so masking with string or with a putty suits. Apply a gloss clear coat before the decals and, once it has dried, go over them with a matte one.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
