A die-cut self-adhesive masking set for spraying the American aircraft insignia in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Armycast. It covers the form of the insignia used from May 1942 to June 1943. The mask is stuck on a dry finish, oversprayed with the colors of the insignia, and once it is lifted off a sharp, perfectly flat motif remains, without the carrier film a decal leaves behind.
In the middle of May 1942 the red center was removed from the star of the American insignia. The reason was the wish to rule out confusion with the Japanese insignia in the Pacific, and the measure quickly spread to all theaters. That gave rise to a plain white star in a blue disc with no red element at all, which was used until the end of June 1943, when the side rectangles were added to the star. This period covers most of the combat service of American machines from 1942 and the first half of 1943.
The base has to be smooth, degreased and perfectly dry, otherwise the paint will creep under the edge. Spray the white area of the star first and add the blue disc once it has dried. Spray thin coats at right angles to the surface, not at an angle under the edge of the mask. On a curved fuselage warm the film slightly so that it settles without wrinkles. Lift it off while the finish is still fresh.
It is a masking accessory, not a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
