The Hauler 1:48 Wirbelwind photo-etched detail set is for the plastic model of the German anti-aircraft vehicle on the Panzer IV chassis. It is an accessory, not a kit in its own right.

A photo-etched set from the Czech maker Hauler in 1:48 scale, meant for the plastic model of the Wirbelwind anti-aircraft vehicle. The set is cut for the Tamiya kit and replaces those parts that cannot be produced in plastic in a realistic thickness. On this type of vehicle that counts for more than elsewhere: the open turret can be seen into from most angles, and coarse plastic walls on it cannot be hidden.
The Wirbelwind came about in 1944 by rebuilding the chassis of the Panzer IV medium tank. The original turret was replaced by an open multi-sided superstructure with a quadruple 20 mm anti-aircraft cannon. The open top was a compromise: the crew needed visibility and a way for the smoke to escape, and they paid for it with no protection from above. The number built was relatively small and they were committed with air defense units on the Western as well as the Eastern Front.
Most of the work on this set consists of bends, not of gluing. It pays to get a simple bender, or you can make do with a steel ruler and flat pliers with smooth jaws. Always run the bend along the scored line and press the sheet home only after the angle is set, not all at once. Bend longer strips in one movement along their whole length, or a ripple will appear that you will not straighten out again. Hold small parts on the tip of a toothpick with a dab of beeswax and work over a light tray, so that you find a part that springs away.
This is an accessory set, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
