An accessory aimed at a single but most visible place in the cockpit: the instrument panel of the Soviet Yak-1 fighter aircraft of the early production series in 1:48 scale. Unlike a full interior set, this is not about fitting out the whole cockpit but a targeted treatment of the panel with its instruments. The element has genuine relief and is printed on decal backing paper; after a brief dip in lukewarm water it slides off the paper onto the part. Painting is unnecessary, as the dials and the bezels are finished.

Use

• First sand the plastic instrument panel flat; the engraved instruments from the kit would form bumps under the decal and the element would not sit down.
• Degrease the surface with alcohol and coat it with a gloss varnish (Future or Klear, Tamiya X-22): the element has no adhesive layer of its own and holds best over a gloss base.
• Cut the element out with a new blade close to the edge of the relief, dip it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the paper onto the panel.
• Align the position with a damp brush, draw the excess water off and let it dry undisturbed; in intricate places a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps.
• Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin. You can bring the dials out with a tiny drop of gloss varnish applied with a toothpick.
