This product is neither a model nor a complete interior. It is a separate 3D decal of the instrument panel of the Soviet Yak-1B fighter in its late production form, in 1:48 scale. The part is printed in relief and already in color, on a backing decal paper from which it is slid onto the kit part in water. Compared with an etched panel it does away with painting and with fitting a backing film with the dials.
The instrument panel is the most closely watched place in a cockpit, because it is visible even through a closed canopy. Molded plastic in this scale usually offers only the outlines of the dials, and hand-painting fine scales is work for long evenings. A colored 3D decal solves that in one step and brings out even details that could hardly be done with a brush. The set is focused on the panel; the rest of the cockpit is covered by the full interior variant of the same range.
Level the original instrument relief on the plastic part flat with a file, degrease the surface and polish it with a gloss varnish — the panel has no adhesive layer of its own and it is exactly the gloss that holds it. Compare the outline dry and trim any overhang with a scalpel while it is still on the sheet, not after it has been applied. Then soak the panel for about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water and slide it off the backing paper onto the part. Press it down with a soft stick from the center outwards, draw the water off and leave it weighted for a while. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin. Do not spray the dials over with a matte varnish, or you would lose the built-in gloss of the glass. Light weathering with a dry brush is possible, but go carefully, as the printing can be worn through.
