1:6 Iraq Posters and Photos

Iraq – posters and photographs 1:6 (ETA diorama)

A printed paper sheet intended for dioramas and display cases in the large 1:6 scale, that is for collector figures and kit displays. It holds poster and photographic motifs set in the setting of a present-day conflict in the Middle East; it is a period depiction used purely for the believability of a scene. It is not a kit and not a waterslide decal – the sheet is cut, trimmed and glued like a paper prop.

What 1:6 scale means in practice

In a large scale the rules are reversed. While in 1:35 you tend to thin paper down, here ordinary office paper is on the contrary too weak and a poster on a wall comes across as stuck-on film. It helps to back the motif with thin card or a plastic sheet a few tenths of a millimeter thick and to clean up the edge. Photographs intended for a figure's hand or for a tabletop are backed as well, so that they do not curl. At the same time, every detail of the printing shows in 1:6, so it pays to work with a sharp blade and a straight rule.

Gluing, patinating and setting into a scene

Onto a wall it is glued with a matte PVA glue applied to the undercoat. Do not coat the paper with glue from above while gluing; it would buckle. Do the aging in moderation: a very thinned wash in a gray tone, fine rubbing of the edges with abrasive paper, a torn corner and perhaps a slight yellowing of the edges. Apply dust pigment from the bottom upward. Seal the whole area at the end with matte clear coat – in this scale a scene is often photographed close up and glossy printing would give the paper away at once.

Who the sheet is for

• Collectors and builders of scenes for figures in 1:6 scale
• Modelers who build display case scenes from a present-day setting
• Those looking for large-format paper props for the interior of a scene
• More experienced diorama builders who know how to back and age paper

A printed paper accessory for a diorama, not a kit. Glue, paints and clear coat are not included in the package.
