Resin type 1 mooring bollards in 1:700 scale from Metallic Details. A set of tiny deck fittings for ship models and harbor scenes; it is not a ship kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set holds resin mooring bollards in 1:700 scale from Metallic Details. It is an accessory that replaces the coarsely cast or entirely missing deck fittings on ship models, or serves as quayside furniture in a harbor scene. The ship model is not included in the package.
Bollards are pairs of short posts on a deck or on a quay around which lines are made fast in a figure of eight. On a real ship there is a whole row of them around the edge of the deck, and they belong among the features that make a model convincing, yet in 1:700 scale injection-molded plastic often only suggests them. Separate castings, by contrast, have the right shape and the right thickness. The fitting is universal by its nature: you will find similar bollards on warships and merchant ships and equally on a quay, so the set will serve on a model and in a waterfront scene alike.
Work over a tray and with tweezers, as the parts are very small. Wash the castings in warm soapy water and separate them from the casting block with a sharp knife or a fine saw; minimal sanding is enough. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin, otherwise the glue will flood the detail. It is practical to paint the bollards while they are still on the casting block and to fit them only once they are painted. A dark wash at the end helps to set them off visually from the deck, and the mooring lines can be suggested with fine thread or drawn fiber.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The ship kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
