1:700 German Navy 38cm/52 SK C/34 Metal Gun Barrel Long Type (for Flyhawk)

Flyhawk 1:700 metal gun barrels 38cm/52 SK C/34

An accessory for ship modelers in 1:700 scale from Flyhawk. The set holds turned metal gun barrels of 38 cm caliber for the main battery of a German battleship and replaces the plastic parts from the kit. This is the long version of the barrel. The maker also offers a shorter variant, so before buying check which of them the state of the ship you are building calls for. The kit is not included in the package.

The real subject

The 38 cm SK C/34 gun was the main weapon of the battleships of the Bismarck class. The ship carried eight of these barrels in four twin turrets, two forward and two aft. The shell weighed over eight hundred kilograms and the range exceeded thirty kilometers. It was from these guns that the salvoes fell which sank the British battlecruiser Hood in the Denmark Strait in May 1941. The weather covers at the muzzles changed over the course of service, and that is why the form of the barrel differs between models.

Use

• cut the plastic barrel off as close to the face of the turret as possible and widen the hole with a drill
• fit the metal barrel dry and check that they all point alike
• glue with CA glue, which holds best on a joint of metal and plastic
• degrease the metal before painting and use a primer for metal

The set is meant for modelers who build a ship model with an emphasis on detail. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
