A plastic kit of the British light cruiser HMS Aurora as she was in 1941, in the ship scale of 1:700. The manufacturer is Flyhawk, a marque known for finely divided parts and delicate surface detail on small ship models. The designation Limited in the name refers to a limited edition of the boxing; the particular contents of the box, the number of parts and the extent of the add-on sets are stated on the box. The model is not finished: it is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
HMS Aurora was a light cruiser of the Royal Navy, the last unit of the Arethusa class, taken into service in the second half of the 1930s. The main armament consisted of six 152 mm guns in three twin turrets, supplemented by anti-aircraft armament and torpedo armament; the ship belonged to the fast and relatively small cruisers that were meant to escort formations and to act against enemy shipping. It was for exactly that that Aurora was deployed in 1941 in the Mediterranean, where she took part in operations against supply convoys. After the war she was struck from British service and handed over abroad. Her state in 1941 means the configuration with the equipment and the finish of the period, which differed from later years.
Models in 1:700 scale have very small parts, so work with a sharp cutter, tweezers and thin cement for plastic, which wicks into the seams. On ship models the hull is usually built either in full or in the waterline variant; prepare a stand according to the form you choose. We recommend finishing the deck and the superstructures separately first, spraying the base shades and only then gluing on the fragile features such as masts, boats and gun barrels. Use a primer and an airbrush with thin coats on the surface, because a heavy coat of paint at this scale will blind the engraved detail. A dark wash is useful for picking out the panels and seams, followed by a dry brush or a light lightening of the edges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
