A highly detailed plastic kit model of the British destroyer HMS Campbeltown in her 1942 fit in 1:700 scale from Flyhawk. The small format is made up for by the exceptional fineness of the parts; the package is usually completed by photo-etched parts and decals. A characteristic feature of the ship is the four funnels of the typical American four-stacker destroyer. It is a kit for more demanding modelers who will appreciate precise detail in a small scale.
HMS Campbeltown was originally an American destroyer of the First World War, of the four-stacker type, handed over to the Royal Navy under lend-lease. What made her immortal was Operation Chariot - the raid on St. Nazaire on March 28, 1942. The ship, modified to pass for a German vessel, rammed the gates of the dry dock and, with a timed explosive charge in her bow, subsequently blew up, putting the dock out of action for the rest of the war.
Decide between the version with the full hull and a stand, or the waterline variant. Glue the fine photo-etched parts, the railings and the radars, with cyanoacrylate glue. For 1942 the period Admiralty camouflage suits; bring the deck and the superstructure out with a fine wash and a dry brush. Because of the tiny parts, work with a sharp tool and tweezers.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
