The Artwox Model veneer deck in 1:700 scale for the Japanese battleship Yamashiro in her 1941 state replaces the plastic deck of the Fujimi 431116 kit with a thin self-adhesive veneer with printed planks.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory to a ship kit, not a model. The package holds a part of thin natural veneer with a self-adhesive back, pre-cut for the decks of the Fujimi 431116 kit; the face carries the printed laying of the deck planks with their gaps. Once it is glued on, the model gains a real wooden surface that plays in the light differently from even the best painted plastic.
The Yamashiro was a Japanese battleship of the Fuso class, completed in 1917, with main armament of 356 mm divided between six twin turrets. After the interwar rebuilds a tall multi-level superstructure above the bridge became her characteristic element. The year 1941 designates the configuration of the ship at the beginning of the war in the Pacific, that is after those rebuilds were completed.
Most of the work goes on getting around the superstructures. Lay the veneer on dry and check precisely how the cutouts sit around the turret bases, the hatchways and the foot of the superstructure, because it is exactly here that an error of half a millimeter shows. If you glue some superstructures on after the deck, plan the build that way in advance. The plastic under the veneer must be smooth and degreased, or visible bulges will form under the thin wood. At the end, trim the overhangs with a new blade by drawing it, not by pressing.
The deck is a modeling accessory, not a kit of the ship. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
