Japanese Aircraft Carrying Cruiser Mogami Naval Port Scenery Set is a kit of the Japanese aircraft-carrying cruiser in 1:700 from Tamiya, completed by the scenery of a port with a base and paper objects.
Responsibility details are not available.
This release joins the classic waterline kit of the Japanese aircraft-carrying cruiser Mogami in 1:700 with accessories that turn the model into a finished display-case scene. Besides the ship parts the package also holds a one-piece display base, a set of port objects and buildings, and decals. The assembled model is roughly 287 mm long. The main-caliber turrets have movable barrels once assembled.
The Mogami was a Japanese heavy cruiser that went through a fundamental rebuilding. The rear gun turrets were removed and in their place an extensive deck for floatplanes came about, which turned an established cruiser into what is called an aircraft-carrying cruiser. This form is attractive for a modeler precisely for the combination of gun turrets in the forward part and an open aviation deck at the rear, which has no counterpart on other ships.
A waterline kit has no underwater part, so the model sits directly on the water or on the base supplied. Cut the small parts of the superstructure off only just before gluing and use thin plastic cement. It is advisable to spray the hull with the base color before you fit the small superstructures, otherwise they are hard to reach. The decks and the hull differ in shade, so mask them separately. Paint the port objects and the base separately, so that you can work on both parts of the scene at once. At the end a fine wash into the engraved lines and light dust effects on the decks will help.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
