A set of 8 turned 380 mm barrels from Aber in 1:700 in the short form for turrets with blast bags, intended for models of the ships Richelieu and Jean Bart.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of eight turned metal barrels of the 380 mm main armament in 1:700 scale from the Polish maker Aber. It is not a kit of a ship but replacement parts for the plastic barrels. The form is the short one, that is it reckons on gun turrets fitted with blast bags — the canvas bag at the turret face covers the root of the barrel, so only the visible part is fitted. Turned metal brings a perfectly straight barrel with a circular cross section and a drilled muzzle.
The 380 mm caliber made up the main armament of the French fast battleships of the Richelieu class. The Richelieu and the Jean Bart both carried eight of these guns in two quadruple turrets concentrated forward. The blast bags where the barrel passes through the turret face kept water and fumes from getting inside, and they are clearly visible in photographs of the ships; their form changed over the course of their service.
Cut the plastic barrels off with a saw as close to the turret face as possible and clean up the hole. Glue the metal barrel with cyanoacrylate glue, and where the fit is tight open the hole out slightly with a small drill. The bag itself can be suggested with a thin strip of filler or a piece of shapeable putty and sanded smooth once dry. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a base coat for metal, and only then apply the shade of the turret.
This is an accessory set of turned barrels, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
