A combined package of accessories from Artwox Model for building a model of the American battleship USS Massachusetts BB-59. According to the name it contains a veneer deck with the laying of the planks printed on it and a self-adhesive backing, a masking sheet and photo-etched parts. The set is cut for the Trumpeter 05761 kit, so before ordering please check that this is the one you are building.
A plastic deck only has the laying of the planks engraved, so once sprayed it looks like a continuous area with grooves. A veneer part, by contrast, has a real wood grain and printed gaps that read under a matte clear coat even in 1:700 scale. The difference is felt most on the large open areas of the bow and the stern, where on a battleship model the deck makes up a substantial part of the visible surface.
First lay the part on the plastic deck dry and check that it fits the edges and the openings. Then rid the plastic of grease and fingerprints, otherwise the self-adhesive layer holds less well. Pull the protective film off step by step, not all at once. Trim the overhangs at the railings and the hatches with a new, truly sharp blade led along the edge of the plastic; a blunt knife tears the edge of the veneer. We recommend going over the finished deck with a matte clear coat, which protects the surface and evens out the sheen.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
