A set in modeling resin that replaces the tail end of the fuselage and the horizontal tail surfaces of a plastic model of the Japanese A6M3 Model 32 carrier-based fighter in 1:72 scale. The cast parts have a finer rendering of the covering and the tail surfaces can be fitted separately, that is even slightly deflected. It is not a kit of the aircraft; the base plastic model is necessary.
The A6M3 Model 32 is an easily recognizable version of the Mitsubishi A6M fighter: it has a wing with cut, squarely ended tips and a Nakajima Sakae 21 engine with a two-speed supercharger. The shortened wing improved the rate of roll and the behavior at higher speeds, but it shortened the range, which on an aircraft intended for operations over great distances meant a noticeable limitation. The Allied designation of this version was Hamp.
The fit into the plastic is the key. The tail of the fuselage is cut off the plastic model along a scribed line, which you should first draw all the way round with a pencil so that the cut stays square. Cut with a saw or with a repeated stroke of a scalpel and break the last remnant away only when the material is almost cut through. Level the cut surface with a file on glass and check that the resin part seats with no gap around the whole circumference; any wedge will show after gluing as a bent fuselage. Verify the axis before gluing by looking from above and from behind, not just from the side. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue, fill the seam and sand it over. Fit the tail surfaces last, so that they do not get in the way while the tail is being lined up. According to the manufacturer the accessory is cut for the Tamiya kit.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a stand-alone model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
