A set of masks in 1:72 scale for the moving surfaces of the Japanese Aichi D3A2 carrier dive bomber, known to the Allies under the designation Val.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Aichi D3A was a carrier dive bomber of the Imperial Japanese Navy, listed by the Allies under the code name Val. You will know it at first glance by its fixed landing gear with faired wheels and by the rounded tips of its wing. The D3A2 version got a more powerful engine and a greater fuel load, so it had a higher speed and a longer range than the original variant.
The masks define the outline of the moving surfaces, that is, the ailerons, the elevator and the rudder. On the real aircraft these had fabric covering over a metal frame and differed from the surrounding skin in both shade and texture. Spraying over a mask carries that difference onto the model with an accurate boundary that neither freehand work nor a decal will give you. The extent of the set and the kit the cut is calculated for is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
First spray the model with the base shade and let it dry thoroughly. Then lay the mask on with tweezers onto a dry, degreased surface and press it down around the whole perimeter so that paint does not run underneath. Spray in thin coats, as a heavy coat tears as the mask is lifted. Lift the mask soon after drying, pulling it at a low angle.
The kit, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
