This item is not a kit of an aircraft, but a decal set in its own right. It offers markings for three Albatros D.V machines flown by Manfred von Richthofen in 1:72 scale. The set is applied to a model you obtain separately and is intended for modelers who want to build a particular historical machine rather than the generic type from a basic boxing.
The Albatros D.V is a German single-seat fighter biplane of 1917. It followed on from the D.III type and its characteristic feature was the elegant semi-monocoque fuselage of plywood shells, which gave the aircraft cleaner aerodynamics than a girder structure covered with fabric. It was powered by an inline water-cooled Mercedes engine and carried two synchronized machine guns firing through the propeller disc. The type suffered from a weaker structure of the lower wing, which would not take a heavy load in a sharp maneuver. In 1917 Manfred von Richthofen was the commander of the Jagdgeschwader I fighter unit, and the Albatros D.V was among the types he flew in that period.
Decals hold only on a smooth gloss surface, so varnish the place of application with a gloss clear varnish. Cut the decal close to the motif, soak it in warm water and let it stand until it releases from the backing by itself. Slide it onto the model with a brush, draw the excess water off and press it down. On the wooden covering of the fuselage, which has a prominent texture, a softener helps the decal to be drawn down perfectly. Finally even everything out with a matte or semi-gloss varnish to match the surface of the model.
The package contains the decals only. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
