A set of angle-of-attack probes for the F-14 in 1:72 scale from the Japanese maker FineMolds holds turned brass parts. It is not a model of an aircraft but a detailing addition.

A detailing addition, not a kit of an aircraft. The box holds two turned brass parts that replace the angle-of-attack probe on the nose of the American F-14 carrier fighter. The fine gradation of the cones and transitions that shape the probe is practically impossible to produce in injection plastic at this scale, while turned brass manages it with no compromise. FineMolds is a Japanese maker known for accurate kits and accessories whose quality has long been recognized in the modeling community.
The angle-of-attack probe is a small but conspicuous element on the forward fuselage that senses the position of the airflow relative to the airframe and feeds the data to the aircraft's systems. On a model it is at the same time one of the most exposed and most fragile parts: a plastic part is easily snapped off, bent or shortened while sanding. A brass replacement is hard, holds its shape, does not deform and looks naturally thin once painted. The two pieces in the box cover the probes on both sides of the nose.
Fit the part only at the very end of the build, once you will no longer be handling the model, otherwise you risk bending it. Drill a hole of the matching diameter in the fuselage, ideally working up from a smaller drill so that the plastic does not tear. It is glued with cyanoacrylate, and a minimum is enough; any excess would flood the detail. Degrease the brass before painting and lay on a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold and will rub off during handling. In color the part usually follows the shade of the surrounding fuselage, and the tip can be picked out according to references. Avoid the part when masking, as tape could bend it.
This is a detailing set, not a model in its own right. Paints, glues and the base kit are not included in the package.
