The kit in 1:72 scale captures the Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the F-4 version in a boxing focused on the machines of the combat unit JG 5, nicknamed Eismeer. It is a classic injection-molded plastic model, supplied unassembled and unpainted. The particular contents of the package, the number of parts and the number of decal schemes are given on the data sheet enclosed with the kit.
The F series was a development step between the E and G versions. Against the older Emil it was given an aerodynamically cleaner nose, rounded wingtips, a tailplane without bracing struts and a retractable tailwheel. The power came from an inverted V12 Daimler-Benz of the DB 601 series, in the F-4 version in a higher-output variant. The armament was concentrated on the centerline of the aircraft: a cannon firing through the propeller hub and a pair of synchronized machine guns above the engine, while the wing stayed without cannons. The unit JG 5 operated in the Arctic region of northern Europe, which is where its nickname referring to the Arctic Ocean comes from. Service in that area meant long flights over the sea and over inhospitable country, and distinctive winter and summer camouflage schemes.
The model matches short-run plastic technology: reckon on cleaning the mating surfaces carefully and on a dry test fit before gluing. Glue with thin cement for polystyrene, which runs into the joint by capillary action. Use masking tape or a ready-made mask on the canopy, and finish the cockpit and close it only after the internal surfaces have been painted. Spray a gloss varnish before the decals, and once it has dried, flatten it to the look you want. Glue the clear parts with a cement intended for canopies, so that they are not fogged.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
