Markings of the bombers of the 447th Bombardment Group from the years 1943 to 1945 in 1:72 scale, among others the machines Virginia Lee II and Tail Wind.
Responsibility details are not available.
The 447th Bombardment Group began combat activity in December 1943 from an airfield in Suffolk in eastern England and stayed with it right up to the last weeks of the war in Europe. In that time it went through the period of the bloodiest daylight raids, when formations flew without fighter escort along the whole route, and the closing phase as well, when Allied air supremacy already reigned over Germany. The sheet covers this whole span.
Two Flying Fortresses are offered. Aircraft 42-97092 with the name Virginia Lee II belonged to the 710th Squadron; the second machine, number 42-107029 with the name Tail Wind, is listed with the 708th as well as the 710th Squadron under a different individual letter, which with transfers between squadrons was an ordinary matter. Both aircraft were license-built by the Douglas company: Boeing could not keep up with demand in capacity, so three firms produced the Fortresses in parallel, with machines from the individual lines differing in details of equipment.
The markings are applied to a finished and dry base coat, but still before any accentuation of panel lines and any dirtying. The reason is practical: soot and an oil wash will mask the edge of the carrier film excellently, whereas a decal laid on an already dirtied surface will not adhere evenly and its edges then stand out. A separating coat of varnish always belongs between the decals and the dirtying layer.
A sheet with the markings, with no plastic parts. You choose the model of the Fortress separately and the sheet is not tied to the product of any particular firm; it is enough to keep to the scale given in the name of the goods.
