The kit captures the British twin-engined Bristol Type 170 Freighter cargo and transport aircraft in the Mk.21 version. It is an injection-molded plastic kit made by short-run technology, matching a large high-wing monoplane with fixed landing gear. The Bristol Type 170 Freighter was created at the end of the Second World War as a simple utility machine with a roomy cargo hold. A high-mounted wing, fixed landing gear and above all the clamshell nose doors, through which even motor vehicles were loaded into the fuselage, are typical of it. It was precisely thanks to them that the Freighter made its name on ferry routes across the English Channel, where it carried cars together with their occupants. Besides the cargo form there was also a variant fitted out to carry passengers. Machines of this type served with civil carriers and military operators on several continents, and many of them reached a great age thanks to an undemanding structure and easy maintenance.
A short-run kit calls for a more patient approach than an ordinary mass-produced model. The parts as a rule have no locating pins, so it pays to clean up the mating surfaces carefully and to keep trying the parts dry. Glue the fuselage of a large aircraft in stages and reinforce it from the inside, so that it does not bow. Use thin cement for plastic applied by capillary action. Lay down a filler primer before painting, which will reveal any remaining scratches and irregularities. Extensive uninterrupted surfaces of the fuselage and the wing are best sprayed with an airbrush in thin coats. Prepare gloss clear coat under the decals and seal the finished model with matte or satin varnish according to the subject you have chosen.
