T-26 740(r) 1:72 (Mirage Hobby)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the captured T-26 light tank in German service, with the period designation 740(r), in 1:72 scale from Mirage Hobby. It is the Soviet T-26 tank that Germany captured and took onto its own strength under its own designation. The package holds plastic parts, soft one-piece tracks and assembly instructions.

The real subject

The T-26 was the most widespread Soviet light tank of the 1930s, derived from the British Vickers pattern. After the fighting on the Eastern Front began, a large number of these machines fell into German hands. The captured vehicles were given a German designation with the (r) suffix for Soviet (Russian) origin, were remarked and used above all for second-line and rear-area duties.

Building and painting tips

Assemble and weather the running gear and the one-piece tracks separately. Captured tanks tended to be resprayed in German paint and carried large crosses or improvised markings so as to tell them apart from enemy vehicles; an airbrush and masking suit those schemes. You will complete the wear with edge rubbing, washes and dust pigments.
