A decal sheet in 1:72 scale from the EagleCal brand for the Curtiss P-40 in the Tomahawk IIB version. These are decals on their own, intended for finishing off a plastic model, which has to be obtained separately. The same item also exists in 1:48 scale; when ordering, watch which scale matches your kit.
The Curtiss P-40 is an American single-engine fighter with an Allison V engine and a conspicuous radiator under the nose. The British designation Tomahawk was carried by the early production versions, which differed from later machines in armament and in cockpit fittings. They were deployed above all in North Africa and in the Middle East, where they stood out at low altitudes and in attacks on ground targets. In 1:72 scale the P-40 is one of the most frequently built types, so a separate sheet is a welcome way to set yourself apart from the color schemes supplied in the box.
Apply gloss varnish to the place where the decal is to go – a matte base causes silvering under the film. Snip the decal out as tightly as possible, soak it for a few seconds in lukewarm water and let it rest until the backing comes loose. Transfer it to the model together with the paper and move it into place with a fine brush, then soak the surplus water away. In 1:72 scale the decals are small, so tweezers with smooth jaws and plenty of light come in handy. On the engravings, use decal softener; once dry, rinse residues of adhesive off with water and even the whole model out with matte varnish.
The package holds decals. The kit, paints and varnish are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
