A decal sheet, that is an accessory for building a model. According to the name it contains the paintings on the noses of the machines supplemented with technical inscriptions - the small markings which on the real aircraft indicated filler points, service accesses and warning areas. This is the sixth part of the multi-part range the manufacturer issues for this type as separate sheets. The contents of the sheet, the number of schemes and the names of the machines are given on the packaging.

Use

• Small technical inscriptions are what makes a model convincing, but they are the hardest on patience. Work with sharp tweezers, a brush with shortened bristles and plenty of light, ideally with a magnifier.
• Apply them after the large designs and once the large decals are dry, so that they are not rubbed off while the model is handled.
• Think the placing out in advance from the instructions for the model and from whatever photographs you have. Too many inscriptions at a small scale merge into an illegible smear; fewer is usually better.
• Older sheets can be brittle and the adhesive less effective. If the film breaks when soaked or will not hold, go over the whole sheet with a thin layer of clear decal varnish, let it dry and cut the designs out only afterwards.
• With small designs prepare the soaking water in a shallow dish and lift the decal out with a brush, not with tweezers - tweezers tear it easily while it is wet.
• At the end seal the whole model with matte varnish, which ties the sheen of the film in with the surrounding finish and settles the inscriptions into the surface.

The real subject

The Douglas C-47 was a twin-engine military transport aircraft derived from the DC-3 airliner. It served for carrying cargo and paratroopers, for towing gliders and for evacuating the wounded, and thanks to its reliability it stayed in service for a very long time. The paintings on the noses of the machines, which the crews had made for them, were part of the aviation culture of the day.
