In 1:72 scale its use makes particular sense: the model is fairly small and without objects around it the size of the real machine is hard to judge. A hooked-on boarding ladder gives a comparison and at the same time suggests the activity on the apron. At the same time it has to be said that the parts in this scale are very small and have to be handled patiently. It is an accessory made of resin and plastic for aircraft in 1:72 scale.
The F-100 Super Sabre was an American single-engine supersonic fighter brought into service in the 1950s. Its hallmarks are the oval nose air intake, markedly swept wings and a low-set horizontal tail surface. It came about in single-seat as well as two-seat versions and it also served in the air forces of other countries. Access to the cockpit was provided by a hooked-on ladder, which the ground crew removed before takeoff.
A small scale puts the emphasis on preparation. Before you start separating anything, prepare a mat with a raised edge so that the part does not ping away. Separate it with a sharp cutter in small steps, not in one pass. Painting is more convenient while it is still on the casting block: the part can be held by the block and sprayed from all sides. Use fine-tipped tweezers and apply the glue with a wire, because a single large drop will drown a small ladder. Keep the weathering restrained; in a reduced scale a strong contrast quickly becomes unconvincing. A slight darkening of the rungs and a fine highlight on the edges is enough.
