This resin set from Quickboost, made by Aires, brings faithfully cast covers for the air intakes of a model of the American Grumman F-14 Tomcat carrier-based fighter in 1:72 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers. On the real aircraft the covers are fitted over the intakes on the ground so that dirt and foreign objects cannot get into the engine.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was an American twin-engine carrier-based fighter with a variable-geometry wing and a crew of two. It served with the US Navy for fleet air defense and for air superiority. Its angular intakes along the sides of the fuselage were routinely covered on the ground with protective covers.
The covers are bonded to the lips of the intakes; before gluing, check that they fit the shape of the intake on your model. First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove any mold release residue. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw and sand the cut faces with respiratory protection. Bond the parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate), not with plastic cement.
The set is supplied as a resin part, unassembled and unpainted. It is not an airplane model but an accessory for a plastic kit. Glue, paints and the kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
