A mask set for painting a model of the F-14D carrier fighter in 1:72 scale. The pre-cut parts cover the canopy glazing while spraying.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-14D is the last production version of the American two-seat carrier fighter with a variable-sweep wing. The wing was adjusted in flight according to speed, so the machine could manage a slow approach to the deck of an aircraft carrier as well as flight at high speed. The D version received modernized cockpit equipment and new engines compared with the earlier machines. On a model the most noticeable feature is the extensive glazing of the two-seat cockpit, which makes every unevenness in the color of the frames show.
In 1:72 scale the frames of the glazing are thin and hard to outline by hand: the paint runs under the brush and the edge stays irregular. The pre-cut self-adhesive masks are stuck straight onto the clear part, so the transition between the frame and the glass stays crisp along its whole length. The masks are cut to the shape of the parts of one particular kit, so check with the manufacturer which F-14D model in 1:72 scale the set is meant for.
Wash the clear part, degrease it and let it dry, otherwise the masks will not hold. Stick them on before spraying and press the edges down with a toothpick so that no paint creeps underneath. Spray thin coats and let them flash off between each other, because a heavy deposit gets under the edge more easily. Once the paint has dried, take the masks off with tweezers and do not leave them on the model for weeks. Wipe any glue residue away with a clean cloth.
A mask set is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
