The engine exhaust nozzles for the Phantom II in the F-4J and F-4S versions in 1:72 scale from LP Models are a resin replacement for the parts from a kit, not a model of the aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a detail accessory that replaces the engine exhaust nozzles on a model of the Phantom II in 1:72 scale that is already built or under way. The name specifies that the form corresponds to the F-4J and F-4S versions. The number of parts, their internal structure and the dimensions are stated on the packaging of the accessory.
Injection-molded plastic has a limitation that shows most on the rear end of a Phantom. The wall of a nozzle molded in plastic is always thicker than it should be to scale, and seen from behind an unpleasantly thick edge appears. A resin casting can be made thin-walled and with a sharper suggestion of the individual segments and the inner flame holder. The rear end of the aircraft is at the same time one of the places a viewer looks at first, so a small investment tells on the final impression more than on hidden details.
The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II was a twin-engine two-seat fighter that served with the US Navy, the Marine Corps and the US Air Force and with a number of other users. The F-4J version was a naval fighter variant, and the F-4S then came about through the rebuilding and modernization of F-4J machines. Both types were powered by jet engines with afterburners whose exhaust nozzles have a characteristic segmented form.
Cut the nozzles off with a saw and level the mating surface on abrasive paper laid on a flat board, so that the part follows on from the fuselage without a step. Make a dry fit before gluing, because shortening or packing out can no longer be corrected on a finished model. Paint them separately before gluing: inside, metallic shades with a heat tint toward blue and brown, outside rather a lighter heat-resistant metal. A dark wash emphasizes the breakdown into segments. It is glued with cyanoacrylate, because cement for plastic does not hold resin.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
