The set contains masks cut to the outline of the clear parts of the Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 model in 1:32 scale. The model is not included in the package; it is an aid for painting. The double-sided designation means that the set allows for masking the glazing from the outside and from the inside, so the framing can be sprayed in the interior color from inside. Compared with the later machines of the E series, the E-3 version has a differently arranged canopy, which is why it has its own masking set that cannot be swapped for the set for the E-4 and E-7.
The real subject
The Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 was among the first large-production versions of the E series. It was powered by a liquid-cooled Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine with direct fuel injection, and the design had narrow-track landing gear attached to the fuselage and an angular divided canopy hinged to the rear. It is precisely the shape of the glazing that sets the E-3 apart from the later production versions.
Wash and degrease the clear part. Lift the masks off the sheet with a sharp point or tweezers and seat them so that the edge lines up with the engraved frame; work the pressure from the center outward so that no air stays under the mask. Press the edges down once more with a toothpick. With double-sided work the inside is usually dealt with first in the interior color, then the outside with the primer and the covering shade. Spray in thin coats and in several passes. Lift the mask once the paint has dried, while it is not yet fully cured, and remove the glue residue with a mild product that will not attack clear plastic.
It is a masking accessory for a build, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
